Navajo Dam NM
7-1-14
Day 42
Another lost cycling day. We were unable to find a place to stay in a critical area of Utah over the 4th of July holiday. The crew is held up another day at the Navajo Dam in New Mexico. The area we need accommodations is near the Burr Canyon Trail crossing near Lake Powell.
This canyon trail could be the most difficult part of our
journey. Sixteen miles of our route is off road and up a serious switchback.
We need to stage ourselves correctly to make this passage
happen. There are no services for nearly 75 miles.
We badly want to move forward but if you cannot find a place
to sleep we cannot move on. As it is we have already had to divert to Durango
Colorado off our route due to lack of services in the Indian reservation.
Hey - Burr Trail now on our bucket list - R&K
