Day 11
5-31-14
Barboursville WV to Louise KY
Today we had a nice easy day on some beautiful West Virginia back roads. Some of these roadways were not much wider than a driveway. The sun was shining and the temperature peaked at 90. With little traffic and only a 60 mile day planned we had it made. After yesterday’s marathon session we needed a break.
Today we reached the state of Kentucky. This is one of the
last few states we need to have ridden in every state from Connecticut.
Our mileage is being set by a rendezvous with the Famous
Kushman Caravan “The SilverShadow”. Rich
Kushman is the father of Team rider Scott Kushman. That is why Rich is “so famous”…….he is the father
of a Team Rider.
Rich & Kathy Kushman are returning back home to Niantic
from northern California with their Airstream trailer. They have been following
our progress since we left trying to make all the stars and planets line up for
a rendezvous. The plan now is for us and the Kushman’s to meet at Natural
Bridges State park which is about 50 miles east of Lexington. They have
promised dinner, beer and a good time!
Oh yea baby, we are on it with both feet. Today’s 60 miler set us up for
a 90 miler to arrive at Natural Bridges and the Kushman Kamp. We promise to
arrive hungry.
We were thinking while lumping our overloaded bikes up one
of the day’s climbs, we traded the pain of going to work every day for some real
pain and suffering. Then Tim reminded us of the logo on our cycling jerseys
that says “Pain is weakness leaving the body”.
If that is the case we must be getting stronger.
