Day 28
Atlanta TX to Mt Pleasant TX
Short days are fun for the crew but they hurt our pocketbook
and cost us more days on the road that also hurts our limited funds. But as I have said before our days are
regulated by places to sleep.
Of course what we call a short day and what a non-rider
calls a short day are different. Today’s short day is about the mileage from
the Connecticut shore to the Massachusetts border. To some that would be a huge
ride with a 75 pound bicycle but for us it is almost cheating.
The short day was actually a blessing in disguise for the
team. On our approach to Mt Pleasant
Texas the skies in front of us started darkening. By the time we pulled into town the winds had
picked up considerably and the sky was now nearly black.
Within seconds of pulling into the hotel the sky opened up
and the downpour started. We would have
drowned in the 15 minutes it took for that storm cell to pass. Winds like a
hurricane whipped the rain in every direction and the streets flooded quickly.
Just as fast as the storm developed it cleared. Within an hour after it blasted through the
roads were once again dry. But if we had been riding when it hit I can
guarantee you we would not have dried quite that fast.
We went to an Applebee’s next to the hotel and a customer
there asked of our journey and after hearing our story bought us a round of
beers. Nothing cooler than that! More
great people.
