Day 30
Paris TX to Sherman TX
Sometimes a day of riding is just a day of riding and today was one of those days. This part of Texas has a mixture of trees, wheat and sunflowers. Soil conditions have become drier and drier and are not able to support corn and soybeans.
Puffy clouds protected us from the sun’s rays most of the
day. Even with daily applications of sunblock we have been getting slowly roasted
by the sun. Our tan lines are dramatic and silly looking. Our glasses have
cause “raccoon eyes” and our helmet straps leave lines on our faces. Socks and glove have left us with white paws
too.
The roads we traveled were nearly void of traffic unless you
need to take a leak and then it is bumper to bumper traffic right where you are
trying to relive yourself.
No matter how remote the road is this situation repeats
itself over and over. We have all decided that if we had and emergency and
needed someone for help all it will take is someone to start pissing. Cars will
arrive in seconds.
We should cross into Oklahoma sometime tomorrow as we will
dance across the OK – TX border a couple times before we enter New Mexico and
Mountain Standard Time.
Road conditions have not improved for us and most of these roads
are as lumpy as a gravel driveway. This continues
to pound our already sore hands and wrists all day long. Each rider looks for any line in the road
that may offer a smoother ride. Even if the smooth section is only 4 inches
wide you will see the rider trying to stay in that small groove. Any break from the relentless shaking and vibrating
if just for a few seconds is worth a try.
Some of the poor road
conditions are caused by farm equipment that was driven on the road surface during
hot weather. The asphalt softens from
the heat and the farm equipment tires leave an imprint in the blacktop like a
never ending rumble strip.
Other than sore hands our bodies are fine and legs strong.
The continuous daily exercise always helps improve our appetites as we have
turned into eating machines.
How do you know you are shopping in Texas?
