Day 2
5-22-14
Bear Mountain NY to Chester NJ
It rained hard
Wednesday night and we woke to “moist” road conditions and a thick fog. Lucky
for us our route was on a road with no traffic at all. The fog slowly turned
into a steady rain and we took cover under an overpass for about 20 minutes. We
added clothing and returned to riding as the rain slowed.
Joe was stopped at an
intersection in the small town of Chester NJ. A nice neat little town similar
to Chester Connecticut. I pulled alongside of Joe who was looking at the black
sky ahead. I suggested we cut the planned ride a little short to avoid another
soaking. By pure chance to our left was the PubLicks Inn and Tavern. I think
the only place in town. We decide to check it out after Joe’s iPhone said a
storm cell was right in front of us. The rooms were pricey but we were able to
talk a deal with the manager for an enormous room. What a cool place!!
We meet so many nice
people when we tour. One guy pulled up in his car when the skies were
threatening and told us we were welcome to stay at his house and gave us the
location. Another guy jumped out of his car at a red light and offered us
bottles of spring water. It’s all good.
Weather Fog/Rain/Sun
70 somewhat soggy miles
4872 feet of climbing
