Day 33

Day 33

Duncan OK to Altus OK

Another day of clouds to protect our oven roasted bodies was a treat today.  We did see some storms brewing at the horizon and we are in Tornado Alley but they were not a threat. In this part of the country it is not unusual to see a storm shelter dug into ground.

All you see of the shelters is a set of steel doors similar to a basement hatch door and a concrete roof just above ground level. Not any of the shelters we saw looked much bigger than a small house bathroom. I guess they are just for protection not to live in.

We came across a couple 3 tarantula spiders crossing the road today. They are interesting to look at and are not aggressive even when Ken was trying to pick one up.

Once again the terrain has changed for us.  The crew pass through the foothills of the Wichita Mountains in Oklahoma. The red rock formations are beautiful to look at.

Our route today was blocked by two road closures that could have cost us a bunch of extra miles.  Lucky for us we were able to get through.

Tomorrow we will be back into Texas for the final time as we pass through the panhandle into New Mexico
